Poetry Corner: The Rime of the Ancient Mariner

Welcome to the Theodicy blog "Poetry Corner" -- a touch of class in an otherwise unremarkable blog.

For our first Poetry Corner feater, we have Samuel Taylor Coleridge's Rime of the Ancient Mariner."

PART I

An ancient Mariner meeteth three Gallants bidden to a wedding-feast, and detaineth one.

It is an ancient Mariner,
And he stoppeth one of three.
`By thy long beard and glittering eye,
Now wherefore stopp'st thou me ?

The Bridegroom's doors are opened wide,
And I am next of kin ;
The guests are met, the feast is set :
May'st hear the merry din.'

He holds him with his skinny hand,
`There was a ship,' quoth he.
`Hold off ! unhand me, grey-beard loon !'
Eftsoons his hand dropt he."

"We were tired of being beaten"

If you were to believe the American mainstream press (shame on those of you who do) one would think that the Middle East has gone to hell in a handbasket ever since George W. Bush sent the troops over...not qute....

Here's an interesting article I found by James Robbins concerning what the people of Afghansitan really think about American military intevention...this is a MUST read...James S. Robbins: Set Your "Setback" Aside.
